What is Laparoscopy?
Refers to a type of surgery in which small incision are made in the abdominal wall through which a laparoscope (digital camera) and other instruments can be placed to visualise and operate on structures within the abdomen.
Laparoscopy can be performed to diagnose conditions or to perform types of operations. It is less invasive than conventional abdominal surgery (laparotomy).

There are a number of operations that can be performed laparoscopically including removal of gallbladder (laparoscopic cholecystectomy), repair of hernia (laparoscopic hernia repair), removal of the spleen (laparoscopic splenectomy), removal of part of the liver (laparoscopic hepatectomy) or removal of part of the pancreas (laparoscopic pancreatectomy).

Come in for your assessment
This is where we’ll determine whether you need surgery, if so it’s usually within two to three weeks.
Have surgery
Depending on what time the surgery takes place, you’ll be out of the hospital the same day or stay overnight.
Come in for a clinical review
One or two weeks after surgery, we’ll do a clinical review to make sure everything is going well.
